Green With Envy

Happy Monday, everyone! Mine was brightened by an early morning email from Joni. A quick glimpse into a fantastic home that makes me feel, oh so envious. Especially this kitchen! I can honestly say, this is the first time I've seen a kitchen so perfect for me, that I would not want to change a detail. I LOVE it! Sadly, some other lucky person will be enjoying it, since it recently sold. Whoever you are, if you are reading this; please don't change that kitchen!

The rest of the house's color scheme is beautiful too! I love the earthy neautrals with an occasional bright, bright color. So exciting:) Also, check out the black stained concrete floors. Ahhh, I'm so smitten.

This house is located behind one of our favorite family restaurants, so I have been admiring it's exterior for a couple of years now. Mark and I always said we would want a house that looks just like this, who knew I would feel the same way about the interior too!

Whiter Whites.

Glossy, bright, fresh, and light. I love all those words and they describe this kitchen well! This all white
color scheme is modern and timeless. I can imagine myself making a sparkling pitcher of lemonade along w/ a brightly colored salad in this fun place. Yummy! I wonder if this kitchen would help me lose weight?
Hmmm?

A Mad Tea Party

I've mentioned before how much I love Alice in Wonderland. I'm quite certain the Mad Hatter
would approve of this tableware. In fact, these little dishes would probably run away once the party was over!

Elica Hood Fans

 

One of my pet peeves is ugly hood fans. They are such a large element in a kitchen and if not handled properly can distract from the design of the kitchen, especially more so in contemporary kitchen design, as I am tending to not use overhead cabinets. The cooktop and back wall then becomes the focal point. So when I saw these innovative new designs from Elica I was pleasantly surprised. They are designed to look like a beautiful pendant handing over the cooktop and include ventilation, filters, lighting and controls.  They are now distributed in Canada and the USA.The fan in the middle row right is stainless-steel Platinum and packs advanced technology into a sleek lampshade diameter that works with any 24" - 36" cooktop and costs $1,600.00.

The Modern Kitchen.

I'm still alive...just tied-up. Here is a collection of some beautiful kitchens I love. To me they have two main things in common:
1. Sleek and minimal cabinetry.
2. Freedom of expression.
I think modern kitchens are so open to the rest of the home, so they are much more stylized than any time previous. Cabinets look like furniture, or disappear into the background. There is also more space for artwork and decorative accessories. The modern kitchen needs to blend with the rest of the house. Its not just about appliances anymore.

Ohhh, Ikea!

I have a love/hate relationship with Ikea. My experience with them makes me hate the place, but my wallet still loves it. I must admit, though; that I really like this kitchen display. I like how clean and organized it is. What I like the most is the wall of shelves in the background. I really want to incorporate this look myself.

I was thumbing through Elle Decor yesterday, and photos of Peter Dunham's store Hollywood at Home caught my eye. Dunham's work is new to me, but I love his uniquely "Hollywood" look. The combination of patterns and bright colors, mixed w/ Spanish colonial and traditional shapes is so dynamic. Definitely, not a look I see living in Texas very often. I guess the fantasy element of Hollywood movies, spreads to its interior design too. Wouldn't be great if we all allowed ourselves to have a little more whimsy and fantasy in our lives and homes?
The site for Hollywood at Home is still under construction, but there are plenty of pretty things to see in Dunham's design website.

I am not much of a cook, but I might spend more time in the kitchen if I had these pots. Check them out at Polka.

Kitchen Design

Here are two examples of kitchens designed with no overhead cabinets. This concept makes the kitchen a focal point and gives it a clean contemporary feel.The picture above has open shelves for "artful" display of dishes.

Santa Fe Kitchen

Whenever I travel home I am reminded how much I love the Southwest landscape. I am also reminded of one of my ultimate dreams...to have a home in Santa Fe. Ahhhhh, what a wonderful place.
